Excavation

Site work done right, because everything above it depends on it.

Overview

Excavation

Excavation is the least glamorous line on an estimate and the one most likely to determine whether the project succeeds. Grade controls where water goes. Compaction controls whether what you build on it settles. Get either wrong and the finished work fails from underneath.

We do site work with the finished project in mind rather than as a separate job handed off to somebody else. That means grading that moves water away from the house, compaction verified rather than assumed, and utilities located before anything goes in the ground.

Excavation

What's Included

Site Preparation

Clearing, stripping and rough grading to get a site ready for what is going on it.

Foundation Excavation

Digging for additions, garages and new construction, cut to the depth and dimension the plan calls for.

Drainage & Grading

Regrading to move water away from the foundation, plus swales and French drains where the lot needs them.

Trenching

Utility and drainage trenching, backfilled and compacted in lifts rather than dumped and driven over.

Demolition

Removal of old slabs, structures and hardscape, with debris hauled off rather than left on site.

Backfill & Restoration

Proper backfill around new work and restoration of the areas the equipment had to cross.

Excavation

Our Standard

Done Once

  • Locates Before Digging

Utilities marked and confirmed before a machine moves. Never billed as an extra.

  • Compaction In Lifts

Backfill placed and compacted in layers, rather than dumped and driven over.

  • Grade That Sheds Water

Finished grade checked against the house, so water leaves rather than collects.

How It Works

Locate And Plan

Utility locates called in, access routes planned, and the dig staked out before a machine moves.

Excavate

Cut to depth and dimension, with spoil managed on site instead of spread across your yard.

Grade And Compact

Graded to shed water in the direction it should go, and compacted in lifts so what sits on it stays put.

Restore The Site

Backfilled, tracked areas repaired, and the site left in a condition you would not be embarrassed by.

Water goes where the grade tells it to. Everything else is a consequence of that.

Common Questions

Water pools next to my foundation. Is that a grading problem?

Usually yes. Soil settles against a foundation over time and eventually slopes back toward the house. Regrading is often the cheapest fix for a wet basement, and worth ruling in or out before anyone sells you an interior drainage system.

Will heavy equipment wreck my yard?

There will be tracked areas, and we plan access to keep them to a minimum and repair them afterwards. We tell you where the machines need to go before we start so nothing about it is a surprise.

Do you handle utility locates?

Yes. Locates are called in and marked before any digging starts. It is not optional and it is not something we bill as an extra.

Can you excavate for a project someone else is building?

Yes. We do site work as a standalone service and will coordinate with your builder on depths, dimensions and schedule.
